Selection Process of Indian Coast Guard Assistant Commandant

The selection of Assistant Commandants in the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) is based on an all-India order of merit, which takes into account candidates’ performance in various stages (I-V) of the examination and the number of available vacancies. All candidates must clear Stages I through V for recruitment in the ICG. Biometric, photo identification, and document verification are mandatory at various stages of the examination. (a) Stage-I (CGCAT – Computer-Based Online Screening Test):

(b) Stage-II (Preliminary Selection Board – PSB):

PSB takes place in Noida, Mumbai/Goa, Chennai, and Kolkata.
Candidates choose their PSB center during the application process.
PSB includes Computerized Cognitive Battery Test (CCBT) and Picture Perception & Discussion Test (PP&DT).
CCBT is in English and objective.
During PP&DT, candidates are expected to speak and discuss in English but can use Hindi if preferred.
Stage-II is a qualifying exam (Pass/Fail). Note:
Candidates’ verification includes photo and biometric verification, comparing data from Stage-I.

(c) Stage-III (Final Selection Board – FSB):
